Sanibel Island Florida Culture
The Sanibel and Captiva Islands are generally very safe and hospitable, and indeed the area is one of the safest in Florida. When we exited our Sanibel Harbour condo, we discovered that when you leave our condo, you will find that this is actually one of the safer Florida! We had a great time on this beautiful, unspoilt barrier island and were surprised to see so many people from all over the world, not only from Florida, but also from all over the world.
Safe beaches and family-friendly resorts abound along the 7-mile stretch of coastline that makes up Fort Myers Beach, and both islands have a number of public beaches. San Cap (which means "San Cap" in the local language) is our main route of adventure into the distance. We drove just past Sanibel to reach Captiva Island and headed for Bowman Beach. It passes most of Sanibel's natural attractions, but the island itself has some of Florida's most beautiful beaches, as well as many family-friendly hotels and restaurants.
We reached Marco Island via I-75 (also known as Alligator Alley) and US Highway 41, also known as Tamiami. Sanibel Island offers a number of hiking trails that offer a varied landscape, from the water that opens up on Bowman Beach to the sandy beaches of Captiva Island and the rocky coastline of San Cap. We also visited the Darling Bird Sanctuary, which is home to more than 200 bird species we admired, as well as several bird sanctuaries on the island.
Sanibel Island is an east-west oriented island, but unlike most north-south oriented islands, its beaches run from south to north, making it a great place to hunt for shells in the Sanibel Scoop. Alligator populations on Sanibel Island are found in all freshwater waters on the island and, if healthy, can cause serious health problems for humans and animals. The shelling of the sanibel island is so popular that the name "Sheller" is due to the fact that the sheller repeatedly bends down to pick up the holders.
Many apartments in Bonita are also perfectly located for a fantastic day trip, but the two best are on Sanibel and Captiva islands. There have also been complaints about noise at some beach destinations, and many Island Inn resort guests say their stay at Sanibel and Captiva Island has ruined other beach locations.
Southwest Florida International Airport is within easy reach, and Fort Myers is just a short drive from Sanibel Island and Captiva Island. There are vacation rentals in Sanibel Harbour, Florida, but they are located either on Saniberia Island or Fort Myers Beach, so they are not too far away.
There are many excellent restaurants and guests can expect good food, good entertainment, good food and excellent service. Sanibel offers a variety of activities such as hiking, kayaking, fishing, boating, canoeing, golfing and other activities.
Take a walk on Sanibel Island, get to know the island's ecosystem and experience its wildlife shelters. Be sure to pack your hiking boots when exploring the beautiful beaches, waterfalls, wildlife and flora on the islands and in the water.
